The Fair Trade Model is an alternative international trade method. The model attempts to make certain that artisans are paid adequately for their work and the products that they make. Fair Trade is dedicated to the producers in lower developed economic regions of the world getting a fair price. A "Fair Price" means that the workers or artisans are paid the price that they the artisan assists in negotiating. The agreed price will always include the cost of production. More progressive Fair Trade organizations, as Fair World Designs, actually guarantees a "Living Wage" the wage needed to improve the life of the family in education, health, housing, and nutrition and establish a sustainable Quality of Life. The Fair Trade model intends to create stability for the workers- such as long-term contracts for profits that the producers can count on. The Fair Trade agreements include training for the producers that help them with their business. The artisans are taught how to increase their profits for a better living. With Fair Trade, we are concerned with economic growth for the producers; additionally, we are interested in social justice issues, working with all producers who need to improve the quality of their life by selling fairly their products. Fair World Designs practices Fair Trade and is pleased to be part of the Fair Trade movement that began in Europe over 40 years ago. The Fair Trade purpose has been from the start: a mission full of hope to build small businesses of artisans to the point of securing sustainable incomes.
